Macedon Ranges Shire councillor Kate Kendall has resigned from her role as mayor to stand as a candidate for the seat of Macedon in the upcoming Victorian state election.
Ms Kendall broke the news late this afternoon after informing the CEO of her decision, which will be effective close of business on Friday, July 24.
“Serving as mayor has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” she said.
“I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together over the past eight months, working alongside my fellow councillors, council staff and our wonderful community.
“I have strived to be a visible, approachable, and hardworking leader during my term. I will continue to serve as a councillor.
“This decision has not been made lightly; however, I believe it’s the right time to explore this opportunity.”
Ms Kendall said, over next week, she will work closely with the CEO, deputy mayor, fellow councillors and council staff to ensure a smooth transition of mayoral responsibilities.
