Caddington won a Kyneton Maiden on October 8, and followed up with a superlative victory in a $200,000 listed race at Flemington on October 24.
What is already a great story that means much more than racing, most likely will have more chapters to add.
Kyneton-based trainer Liam Howley said the filly’s win in the 1200m Crockett Stakes was as important as any achieved in his career, expressing confidence the ability is there to go on to further successes.
Caddington is raced by a community of family and friends in loving memory of Nicole Strang, who lost a nine-year battle with breast cancer last year.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, making Saturday’s victory even more meaningful.
Through Caddington, Nicole’s memory lives on, helping to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
A large contingent of owners and supporters were present to see the Kyneton race where the filly won by almost five lengths … fast forward to Flemington on Cox Plate Day where there was an even larger number who were elated and emotional when jockey Billy Egan brought the filly down the outside to win narrowly.
While Caddington started as a $12 chance, there was an air of confidence from the stable.
Howley feels the filly will handle a longer distance, having had just three starts.
This is truly a galloper who means so much to everyone involved, and surely to those who may become involved in the future.
Adin Strang, husband of Nicole and long-time manager for Howley Racing, was thrilled with the big win, and the involvement of so many district racing enthusiasts in the syndications behind the filly.
Howley said if one ever wanted a stable acquisition to be talented, this was the one, obtained through Kia Ora Stud.
