Paris Gem, purchased for $800 as a weanling, won easily at Mornington on Sunday to take her stake earnings to $100,793.
Trainer Sue Naylor did a great job to have the seven-year-old mare primed to win the fillies and mares race over 1600m, as she was fresh from a 20 weeks’ spell.
Naylor prepares the galloper on her property off the Woodend-Tylden Road, and races her with partner James Fowler.
It was Paris Gem’s 50th race start, and her fourth win, starting as a $16 chance.
Naylor says the mare is honest with a lovely temperament, and easy to train.
In-form mature age apprentice Sheridan Clarke had the winning ride, and followed up her win on the Maldon-trained Savoie at Stawell on Friday.
Clarke began race riding late last year, and has already chalked up 10 winners in a short space of time.
