It’s Mental Health Week across Mount Alexander Shire and there’s no better time to put on your dancing shoes and lose yourself to dance.
Join the next No Lights No Lycra dance session in Castlemaine this coming Friday.
“Dancing is good for your emotional health and has been proven to help fight stress, anxiety and depression,” said Katie Perry from No Lights No Lycra Castlemaine.
“It’s a fantastic form exercise for your mind and body, a great form of self-expression and a whole lot of fun.”
No Lights No Lycra is a monthly lights-out event that provides the chance to dance in the dark for one hour just for the pure joy of it.
It’s light enough that you can see the shapes of people around you but dark enough that you can’t make out their features.
The play list is a bit of everything from pop to indie, rock to hip hop, dance and soul to Top 40 with dance floor classics, music from across the decades and highly danceable tracks.
There are no steps to learn and no technique! Just free movement in a friendly, non-threatening, drug and alcohol-free atmosphere.
As part of Mount Alexander Mental Health Week activities across the shire, NLNL Castlemaine is offering discounted entry this month followed by a cuppa and cake.
“No Lights No Lycra is a place to take some time out from your busy schedule, shake out the week’s stresses and lose your inhibitions,” Katie said.
“Come alone or with friends. Just wear something comfortable. This month we’re inviting everyone to stay behind for some cake and a chat. It’s a great chance to meet new people.”
No Lights No Lycra Castlemaine is on from 8pm, Friday October 12 in the West End Hall, Woodman Street, Castlemaine. Cost: $5.
