The first-ever Gisborne-Kyneton United women’s football match on Saturday resulted in a comprehensive 67-point victory at Gardiner Reserve.
This match against last season’s EDFL second division runner-up Roxborough Park marked a key moment in the Macedon Ranges team’s journey.
It provided a snapshot into how players from Gisborne and the new Kyneton Women’s Football Club would mesh, and the outcome made other teams sit up and take notice.
GKU began strongly at Gardiner Reserve, with dependable midfielders Teagan Ainslie, Belinda Hateley and Ebony Cole and new star recruit Cheyene Macumber combining to give forwards a chance to kick early goals.
Four first-term goals set the stage for a good win via fast-paced, team-orientated football.
Alexia Todorovic and Ayesha Nicholson excelled with their silky skills around stoppages and scored two goals each.
GKU 13.12 (90) d Roxburgh Park 3.5 (23).
Goals: A. Todorovic, A. Chadwick, A.. Nicholson, E. Williams, E. Gibson 2, A. Crooks, T. Ainslie, C. Macumber.
Best: Ainslie, B. Hateley, C. Macumber, Gibson, Todorovic, Chadwick.
This Saturday, GKU travel to face Sunbury Kangaroos in a twilight match starting at 4.50pm at Boardman Reserve, Sunbury.
