From High Street to Jack High

When Kyneton received 75mm of intense rainfall on January 27, the last thing Angie expected when she opened the door to Angie’s Café and Bake Shop on High Street, was to wade into water on her café floor.

The CFA’s sandbagging prevented some of the rain that followed over the next two days, but it couldn’t undo the damage to the café from the initial flood.

It’s been a tough two years for Angie as she navigated COVID, staff shortages and then the January storms.

Having grown up in Kyneton and known by many of the locals, Angie said it had been difficult to keep going.

“But I have some amazing customers that have continued to support me over the last two years. They keep me going,” she said.

Not one to give up and thanks to the generosity of the Kyneton Bowling Club, Angie’s Café can now be found upstairs, above the club in the same location as the Jack High Bar and Bistro.

As a thank you to her loyal customers and to welcome new customers to her new temporary home, Angie is having a week of specials from Wednesday March 16, where you can enjoy a $10 breakfast, choosing from bacon and egg muffin and cuppa; pancakes and cuppa; or a ham and cheese croissant and cuppa.

If you can’t make it to breakfast, Angie’s $12 lunches include fish, chips and salad; or lasagne, chips and salad.

She is also having a special on the soup of the day, served with toasted sourdough bread for only $8 during her week of specials.

As always, her famous gluten-free passionfruit sponge will be available to purchase.

For those who can’t make it to the café during the week, Angie is hosting a Mother’s Day event in the same location on May 8, providing a roast carvery buffet, including soup entrée and a choice of two desserts for only $49/person and a mini kids buffet for the little ones for $11/child.

With entertainment provided by Dolly’s Disco Bingo, Angie hopes to welcome many mums and their families to her new location. For bookings, call 4412 2000.

Always one to look for the silver lining in the storm clouds Angie looks forward to the day she can welcome everyone back to her High Street cafe with new décor, fresh food and a fresh start.

In the meantime, grab yourself a special breakfast, lunch or piece of the best gluten-free sponge cake in Kyneton.
