Harcourt ran out convincing winners in their round two clash at Campbells Creek on Saturday.

The Creek Magpies side were fresh from the pre-season and a first round bye, whereas the Lions had kicked off the year with a strong 108-point win over Lexton at home.

The Lions pounced on the Magpies from the first bounce smashing through nine goals in the opening term to Creek’s one to hold a commanding 50-point lead at the first change.

The Lions continued to pepper the goals in the second piling on another five to extend the margin to 88 points at half-time.

Creek continued to dig deep in the third but could not turn their opportunities into points on the board, while the Lions nabbed another seven to increase their lead to 135 points at the final change.

Creek had a few chances in the final term but couldn’t capitalise and Harcourt claimed the win by 184 points.

Best for the Magpies were James Martinovic, Kyle Gellatly and Mitchell Milne. Best for the Lions were Baxter Gurd with 6, Cameron Anderson and Riely Thiesz 5 each, Jed Rodda with 4 and Jack Threlfall.

Trentham played host to Dunolly and bounced back from their disappointing round one loss to 2024 premiers Natte Bealiba to defeat the Eagles by 28 points.

The Saints opened their account with an eight goal first term effort while keeping Dunolly to 2.2. The Eagles fought back in the third term holding the home side to just three points while adding three goals of their own.

An even final term saw both sides kick three goals each, but the damage was done and Trentham were victorious.

Best for the Saints were James Regan with 6 goals, Jake Keogh with 3 and Edward Fanning.

Maldon journeyed to Lexton to take on the Tigers in their first game of the year. The Dons round one match deferred until Good Friday when they host Talbot in the traditional Maldon Easter Fair blockbuster.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the Bombers day with Lexton getting up by 35 points. Best for Maldon were Bailey Brown with 4 goals, Coby Bennett and Callum Buchanan.

Newstead headed across the Moolort Plains to tackle Carisbrook but also came up short going down to the Redbacks by 48 points. Best for the Steaders were Ben Moran 2, Angus Mayes and Geordie McMurtrie.

Talbot had a big win over Avoca to the tune of 116 points and Navarre defeated Maryborough Giants by 13 points in a close tussle. Natte Bealiba had the bye.
