In a tribute to the trucking industry of Australia and the people who have kept the wheels turning during an extraordinary year, the Castlemaine Rotary Club is conducting a ‘reverse’ truck convoy from Campbells Creek this Sunday.
Truck Show coordinator Kerry Anderson said that while the local Rotary Club might not have been able to conduct their 32nd consecutive Castlemaine Rotary Truck Show in the manner they were accustomed to, they were committed to keeping the spirit of the popular event alive.
“We encourage the community to cheer on the truckies that have loyally delivered the materials, products and services we all rely on during a challenging year,” she said.
Among those set to feature will be local trucks from Leech’s Transport, which has been a long-time supporter of the show, and a ‘Richmond FC themed truck’.

On Wednesday November 25 at 7pm the Castlemaine Pioneers and Old Residents Association is giving a sneak preview of their exhibition rescheduled for 2021, The History of Transport in the Mount Alexander Shire.
“Leech’s Transport will also feature as part of this unique exhibition,” Ms Anderson said.
On the afternoon of Sunday November 29, from 1pm through to 3.30pm, there will be guest speakers, interviews with local trucking identities and the announcement of the photo competition and raffle.
The convoy and many of the events will also be live-streamed on the Castlemaine Rotary Truck Show Facebook page.
As this is normally the Rotary Club’s major fundraising event for the year, an online donation platform has also been set up – www.trybooking.com/au/donate/castlemainerotary – so the community can still contribute to the projects that Rotary supports each year.
It is important to note that this year the convoy will run in reverse and over a longer distance so spectators can spread out and be safely distanced. From 9am onwards the convoy will commence at Campbells Creek and spectators should look out for the trucks along the Campbells Creek Main Road, into Johnstone Street, and finally heading north up Barker Street Castlemaine.
