The $125,000 bet365 Kyneton Cup for 2022 will highlight a nine-event program being run at Bendigo today (Wednesday).
The Kyneton meeting was switched to Bendigo at the weekend, with persistent rain in the preceding days taking its toll on the track and surrounds.
Racing Victoria and the Kyneton & Hanging Rock Racing Club announced the venue switch at the weekend.
The Kyneton Cup to be run over 2100m is race 7 on the nine-event program.
Kyneton trainer Liam Howley has last start winner Station One, to be ridden by Craig Newitt, in the field in a step up in class. Station One is pictured winning at Ballarat.
Topweight is Dark Dream, with 60kg, trying to add to over $2.2 million in prizemoney.
The Chris Waller-trained Rousseau ran third in the Port Macquarie Cup at his most recent run, while Designs is the big hope for the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable.
Bold front runner Silent Command and Eaton are the other two runners in the field.
It is well-known Kyneton trainer George Osborne’s swansong before retirement after a career which has yielded 545 winners. He has 10 runners, including two debutants, running today after hoping to bow out with Cup Day on his home track.
Six jockeys who have played a role in the Osborne stable’s successes have rides as a farewell finale – namely Linda Meech, Dean Holland, Alana Kelly, Blaike McDougall, Teo Nugent and Robbie Downey.
The Prendergast Earthmoving BM70 Handicap will conclude today’s meeting.
