The Midland Express is throwing its full support behind Hard Quiz host Tom Gleeson in his bid for Gold at this year’s TV WEEK Logie Awards, and we’re asking our readers to do the same.
The Romsey comedian and ABC TV host thinks it’s only right too, as the Macedon Ranges owes him a debt of gratitude for his campaigning against a Perth company’s bid for a mining exploration licence over his home town last year.
“The Macedon Ranges owes me big time, so the least they can do is get me a Gold Logie,” he laughs.
“The ABC hasn’t won Gold since 1976 so essentially I’m the St Kilda of the Gold Logie nominees.
“I need people to actually vote for me because I’m one of the favourites so people are just going to assume I’m going to win and they won’t bother.”
Gleeson says the hundreds of thousands of ABC viewers are lazy and need a strong motivation to vote, so he’s axed Hard Quiz and is holding the show to ransom.
“I’m only going to bring it back if I win Gold,” he says.
“ABC viewers are old and they don’t know how to use a smart phone so I’m already on the back foot.
“But they love a quiz, so it’s like cancelling Bingo at a retirement home and I’m giving them a strong motivation to vote.”
Gleeson has one more incentive to get locals to vote for him.
“Sunbury is the home of The Ashes and Lancefield has the Black Panther in the main street, so if I win the Logie maybe we could have Romsey the home of the Big Gold Logie near the skate park … or maybe out of the front of the IGA?”
Live voting for the 61st TV WEEK Logie Awards opens Monday, June 24 at 12.01am and closes at the end of the red carpet telecast on Sunday, June 30 at 7.30pm.
